Disclosure: As a reminder I don't go back and correct any mental errors while writing because that is true to how my brain works with living with epilepsy. In order to understand this by someone just joining, one example at times I might speak a sentences out oforder, or repeat them, spelling.

Friday the 13th often carries a reputation for bad luck.

Many avoid the day, due to superstition of it being bad luck and "bad things" will happen. For me the number 13 has always been a symbol of strength, milestones, and unexpected blessings. Today, on this so-called unlucky day, I want to share how the number 13 and how living with epilepsy, which I call MyGlitch.

The Number 13 as a Symbol of Strength

In high school, I wore jersey number 13 for volleyball. While many saw it as unlucky, I saw it as my lucky number. Wearing #13 was a daily reminder that luck is what you make of it. It became a honor, a symbol of resilience and confidence. Afterall; by playing the position of "setter" you play a key role in every play made. learned to challenge the superstition and redefine what #13 meant to me. To this day, many never got it....but my mind did.

Maybe it was a SIGN of what was to come later in my life?

To those of you who don't know, Brent proposed to me on the 13th, (out of spite in some ways cause he says Valentine's day is a Hallmark created Holiday) So now #13 became a day of LOVE, just for Brent and I along with our continued strong loving marriage standing side by side. So once again #13 showed me that luck is not about chance but about perspective and courage.

What is happening today Friday 13th 2026

Bryce, for those that don't know graduated from EmbryRiddle with a BS with honors in Aerospace Engineering and is currently getting his Master's at the University of Kentucky.

This morning Crew 12 blasted off from Cape Canaveral. Once again showing me what this day #13 can mean to me. Bryce loves space exploration, and hopes one day he will be part of space design by building sataleittes. I don't often understand much of anything he says(it is way above my brain level) but when something like today happens i can see why he has such a passion for what he does. He is pushing boundaries and overcoming challenges daily, just as this Space crew will be doing in Space.

Today Broc in his senior year at UTSA will be with is teammates as it is D1 Baseball opening day. A much anticpated day by ALL baseball fans across the country. So once again it is lucky #13. I am sad we won't be there in person but thankful we can still cheer him on from afar. (thank you technology) He may not be wearing #13, as I did but I will be cheering loudly at the TV for #55. I admire him for his daily strength and determination to be behind that plate catching, or at the plate ready to drive the ball. He has overcome injuries(which I can only compare it to my daily Glitch battle) but he never lets that stop him from pushing for his dream with passion to play baseball at his very best. Not to mention his tenacity to make it to the next level.

Epilepsy as My Glitch #13

Living with epilepsy has been a journey of not knowing will happen day to day. I call it my glitch because it’s a part of me that sometimes disrupts the flow but never defines who I am. In fact it has taught me how strong I can be, even if I don't always believe it on a daily basis. Epilepsy has taught me the importance of strong family, and of support systems and patiences. Ok....I may need some help with the patience part due to my stubborness but I am trying to work on it.

Epilepsy and the #13 may seem unclear at first, but for me, they are linked by resilience. Just as I embraced the #13 against superstition, I face epilepsy with determination. (just as both my sons do in their lives and in turn inspires me.) All require a mindset that sees beyond fear and focuses on strength. (Brent shows me that strength by being a great dad teaching our boys so much and my biggest supporter, all which began on lucky #13)

Lucky #13 MyGlitch & Events of today relate

Many view epilepsy as a limitation, but I see it as a challenge that has shaped my life. Yes there have been "bad" days, but with every "bad" day brings a "great" one. It has pushed me to be someone I never knew I could be & I by doing this I hope it helps others living with MyGlitch, to advocate for themselves & teach others what it means.

The events of today, Friday the 13th, remind me that luck is not about avoiding difficulties but about embracing them. Whether it’s a rocket launch, building space satellites, a baseball game, a engagement proposal, or living daily with MyGlitch, luck comes from persistence and hope.

YOU must BELIEVE in Lucky #13, As I do!

  • Change the superstition: Don’t let numbers or dates dictate your mindset. Find your own meaning.

  • Celebrate milestones: Recognize the importance of personal and family achievements.

  • Embrace challenges: View obstacles as opportunities to grow stronger.

  • Support matters: Build a network of people who understand and encourage you.

  • Stay hopeful: Keep looking forward, even when the path is uncertain.

Lucky #13 will always hold a special place in my life.

It’s a day that reminds me of love, family, and strength. MyGlitch is part of my story, teaching me to face life with courage and positivity in myself, as others do for me.

If you or someone you know lives with epilepsy or faces any challenge,

remember that luck is not about avoiding trouble.

It’s about how you respond to it.

Embrace your own #13, your own symbol of strength,

and keep moving forward.
