Disclosure: As a reminder I don't go back and correct any mental errors while writing because that is true to how my brain works with living with epilepsy. In order to understand this by someone just joining, one example at times I might speak a seteances out ouf order, or repeat them, spelling.

The reading of this book, changed my blog entry for this week, COMPLETELY!! I even deleted the original entry.

First off thank you to Broc's teammate for telling him about this book.

I immediately ordered off Amazon & it came to me just at the right time.

The book is Be There When I Return by Michael King hit me like a lightning bolt to my brain. I am not trying to funny, since I do have a lightning bolt in my logo, it just did feel that way. His story of facing epilepsy later in life is like ours in many ways. What hit me the most was his question: Is it better to be lucky or good? If you could choose only one, which would it be? This question, I actually had a different feeling until I read his book. If you have followd MyGlitch family's journey you will know why i said it changed my mind, based old blog posts. It reminded me that the most powerful thing we forget about daily is determination. Brent & I have always told our boys this, but his words make it sound much different. I have said his words before but for some reason it me hard & read on to learn why.

He said “always keep moving forward, never give up,”

Michael King’s Journey and how it is like MyGlitch

His epilepsy began just like mine at an older age, and had no idea at the time that it was even epielpsy. why it was happening and asking why us, why now? No one in our family had epilepsy so why do i have it? Why have this happen to my family, our oys were young, Brent and I had great jobs, friends, we were settled in our new home.

His honesty about fear and not knowing what was next, was how we felt.(at times we still do) I loved how he didn't sugarcoat anything about his story, but also refused to let it stop his and his family. Like us, we try to be upfromt, or at least we are now, in the start we tried to hide it afraid of what others might think.

Is it Luck, Skill, or the Power of Determination

His question about luck vs skill caught me by surprise. Afterall; bisn't our skill, supposed to get us where we should be? Sometimes, luck places us in the right spot or connects us with the right people. Other times, skill and hard work open doors that luck cannot. This is why we have always told our boys hardwork will payoff, but now I was asking or do they just need better luck?

He spoke of determination is the trait that carries us through when luck runs out or skill isn’t enough. Determination means showing up every day, pushing through setbacks, and refusing to give up even when it isn't going the way we planned.

He made me believe even more that Determination is what matters

We have told our boys success or overcoming my epilepsy or something went wrong for them we always say their talent, connections, or luck would get them where they want to be. But hid book reminds me that the best quality is determination. It keeps us going when others might give up, but we won't.

Determination means:

  • Facing fears & not let it control us

  • Learning from setbacks instead of feelnig defeated

  • Supporting each other through(& others) at hard times

  • Staying committed to goals, even when it isn't happening like we planned

This is very important when living with epilepsy or supporting someone who does. It’s not about being perfect or always winning. It’s about resilience(from previous post read about Team Parmer os always resilient) and the refusal to stop trying.

How Our Family Landed Where We Were Meant to Be

Epilepsy changed our lives, but it also led us to unexpected places. For those that know us, we have gone through many moves to various states, jobs, boys schools, now they are in college/grad school, still facing changes along the way of our goals.

Yet along the way we were "lucky" we found support by many, gained new strengths we never knew we had We live in the moment(well at least most of the time, I tend to worry a bit too much still) Looking back, this book reminded me it feels like we landed exactly where we were supposed to be.

Afterall; If I never took the jump of going to grad school iin North Dakota of all places, I would have never of met my wonderful husnamd, and who knows where I/we would be instead?

He helped me see that “landing” isn’t about luck or being good at everything. It’s about embracing the journey with determination and an opened mind. It’s about accepting that some things are out of our control but choosing how we respond.

MyGlitch has taught us to value persistence and hope. It has shown us that even when life feels uncertain, moving forward with determination creates new possibilities.

Moving Forward with MyGlitch and Beyond

Michael’s quote, “always keep moving forward, never give up,” will be my new motto for us not only with MyGlitch(but all things in life), even when I break down and cry over my day or something that has happened to anyone in our family, I am a mom, us mom's tens to do that for our families. Now I have used this motto before but now it has a differnet meaning using the term determination.

After reading his story, and how our family is so much like his. It fires me up even more on why I need to keep blogging, nnot just for our family but all that live with epilepsy or any obsacle in life. I almost was going to stop, as I feel like I am reaching no one. But if it can help just even my family or just 1 person, I did my part.

Our shared journeys with epilepsy, show that determination is the key to finding strength and purpose. Luck and skill have their place, but determination lands us where we end up.

If you or someone you love is facing epilepsy or any challenge,

"keep moving forward, never give up"

I now trust that TeamParmer is exactly where we need to be.

Now I will have my family read the book, so they can also learn this but also show them like him how much theur love helps me fight daily MyGlitch!

I hope you will read his book too!
