World PURPLE Day is always 3/26 & how it became known

NATIONAL WORLD PURPLE DAY IS TODAY

Purple day is a global grassroots movement that was formed to increase worldwide awareness of Epilepsy, and to dispel common myths and fears of this neurological disorder which can be many forms when seen by someone. This #MyGlitch disorder affects roughly over 50 million worldwide (or 1 in 100), 1 in 26 in the United States....yet not much is known by the general public and the Mayo Clinic along with the Epilepsy Foundation are constantly trying to raise funds for research to help individuals gain control of their Epilepsy.

Many people are afraid Epilepsy and think it is contagious(it is not), or afraid to even speak to others if they witness someone having a seizure, many assume a seizure is just someone on the floor with their whole body shaking(there are MANY MORE forms of Epilepsy, and in fact that is the least common), also the proper first aide is NOT known by even medical professionals.

Many confuse this with Epilepsy Awareness Month set forth by the Epilepsy Foundation which is the entire month of November. (so mark your calendars now for that)

This special day was trademarked by a young girl named Cassidy Megan from Canada who had a seizure in her classroom and many of her "friends" became scared to be around her, and she became withdrawn and embarrassed. It was then she decided a day needed to be trademarked for her and others living with Epilepsy could educate others on their condition. She did not want other kids to go through what she did in class. Cassidy decided on the color PURPLE because LAVENDER was already known as the international flower for Epilepsy. Cassidy was able to officially get the day trademarked in 2008. (Thank you young lady from all of us living with our own #MyGlitch.)

****As a side note though the essential oil Lavender is known to trigger seizures, if you plan gifting someone living epilepsy******

Now today is even more special in the state of Florida because yesterday on March 25, 2022 a bill was passed that all that work in schools in any format will have to be trained in Epilepsy first aide, so now all parents and children/adults that live with Epilepsy can feel more at ease in the school environment. Every school MUST have a seizure action plan in place and approved. Also, parents and or others working within the school may submit their own seizure action plan in their file provided by their neurologist.

In honor of today I ask everyone to WEAR PURPLE & take a picture of yourself and others. Tag/DM it to my FB page MyGlitch, comment here on my blog, or text me at 701-238-5013. I will be posting pictures throughout today to raise #EpilepsyAwareness on #WorldPurpleDay. No PURPLE clothing, no problem, take a picture with something colored PURPLE or even ask me any question you might have about #epilepsy. Let's get the conversation and awareness going!

LET'S GET EVERY STATE TO DO THIS!

DOES YOURS ALREADY HAVE A PLAN?
