Spiritual Wellness
For those of you celebrating your given faith, I wish you a beautiful Passover today and amazing week until you reach Easter Sunday. Spiritual wellness is not necessarily limited to being faith-based. It is important to realize everyone has their own set of values, morals and beliefs, and it isn't exclusive to a certain given faith.
It is important we respect what each of us believes, and that is part of our values which is spiritual wellness.
I grew up with parents, grandparents and others who instilled in me my values. Hence; why spending time with family is one of my core values which I believe, Brent and I also instilled with our boys. Family is always first. As I grew older my beliefs and feeling of purpose/connection may have been altered some, but the core has always been there. This may have been due to certain events that happened in my life or people who I met who had an impact on me. My purpose; my values; my spiritual wellness continues to evolve and makes me stronger.
Epilepsy And How It Has Changed my Spiritual Wellness
Before I was diagnosed I did not realize I could offer much more than just being a mom, wife, sibling, daughter, friend and employee/colleague. All of these meant a lot and I took great happiness and pride in them all and goals I did achieve.
I have learned when some things I cannot do anymore due to my uncontrolled seizures, it does not mean I cannot have purpose in my life or add daily value to myself or others. I am not less of a person due to my seizures or defined by them. I do admit this is at times a struggle for me accept.
I now understand I need to take time for myself and my health as part of my daily purpose in life. Like in the graphic where I am just enjoying the environment around me, or sitting and talking to my husband or taking it all in, being able to enjoy every moment I am given and not take them for granted.
I have chosen a path where I believe spreading epilepsy awareness is of utmost importance to me. Also, developing relationships with those who also deal with living with epilepsy. It has guided me down a new purpose in life which I never knew about before. To better understand others who struggle with epilepsy and/or other invisible illness as well, such as fibromyalgia which I also have. I want to educate myself on other's situations with respect, just as I am spreading epielpsy awareness.
